Frequently Asked Questions

From Pet owners, Vets, etc.....

What is a microchip, and how does it work?

A microchip is a tiny electronic chip, roughly the size of a grain of rice, that is implanted under your pet's skin. It stores a unique ID number that can be read by a scanner. When scanned, this number can be used to retrieve your contact information from a pet recovery database, helping to reunite you with your pet if they get lost.

How is a smart tag different from a regular engraved tag?

A smart tag is a modern version of a traditional tag, equipped with technology such as QR codes or NFC. Unlike regular tags that only display static information, smart tags can be scanned with a smartphone to reveal detailed information about the pet, notify the owner about the pet's location, and much more.

Can a smart tag replace a microchip?

While a smart tag provides immediate access to your pet's information when scanned, it cannot replace a microchip. Microchips are permanent and work without batteries, providing an essential backup method for identification if the tag is lost. Using both ensures a higher level of security for your pet.

What is a pet profile?

A pet profile is like a digital ID card for your pet, available online and through our smart tag. It holds key details to safely return your pet if they get lost, including phone numbers, addresses, and health information like medications, allergies, and whether they're sterilized.

You're the best! Being a good pet is all about being your awesome self, and you nail it every day.

Why dont you sniff your friends butts?

Humans just say hi differently, using words and smiles more than sniffing. We like to look and listen to learn about our friends!

Can I sleep on the bed tonight?

That's up to your human. But if you give them those adorable eyes, they might just say yes. It's all about the cuddles!

What is this thing thats constantly following me?

Oh, that's your shadow! It's like a silent buddy that copies you because it thinks you're cool. It shows up when you block the light, sticking to you like a loyal friend.

Understanding Microchip ID Structure

Every 15-digit pet microchip ID follows the ISO 11784/11785 standard. The first few digits identify the manufacturer. There are two types of manufacturer codes — and both provide equally unique identification.

TYPE A

Exclusive Code

Some manufacturers have their own dedicated 3-digit code. The first 3 digits alone identify the manufacturer.

ABC

000000000000

Manufacturer Code

Digits 1–3

Unique Serial

Digits 4–15

Example: Code ABC is exclusively assigned to a manufacturer. Any chip starting with ABC is that manufacturer's product.

TYPE B

Shared Code (900 / 901)

Codes 900 and 901 are shared among multiple manufacturers. Each manufacturer is assigned a unique 3-digit sub-code (digits 4–6), making the combination of the first 6 digits a fully unique identifier — just like an exclusive code.

900

267

000000000

Manufacturer Code

Digits 1–3

Sof Code

Digits 4–6

Unique Serial

Digits 7–15

Example: Code 900 + Sub-code 267 is exclusively assigned to Freevision Technologies. Any chip starting with 900267 is a product of Freevision Technologies or its authorized partners.

Common Misconception

It is widely — and incorrectly — believed that microchips starting with 900 “may not be traceable to a single manufacturer.” Even some well-known industry organizations have published this claim. This is a misunderstanding. The root cause is that many legacy lookup tools only read the first 3 digits and stop there — they simply fail to parse the sub-code (digits 4–6) that completes the identification.

The Fact

Whether a manufacturer uses an exclusive code (Type A) or a shared code with sub-code (Type B), every manufacturer has a globally unique prefix. A 900-series chip like 900267xxxxxxxxx is just as uniquely traceable to its manufacturer (Freevision Technologies) as a dedicated-code chip is to its manufacturer. The 6-digit prefix provides the exact same level of identification — no ambiguity, no guesswork.
